So, I've been a little absent from the studio this month... thank you to the entire YH team that pulled together to keep things running. I had the privilege to take my 300-hour yoga teacher training with Spiritual Master Anand Mehrotra at Sattva Yoga Academy in the foothills of the Himalayas. I don't exactly have words to describe how this yoga training impacted me. I mean, I have MANY words... but no words that seem to capture the magnitude of my experience.
However, there is ONE lesson I can verbalize because it was so consistent throughout my time in India. Or perhaps I should say: Consistently inconsistent. I learned to flow with grace. No, I'm not referring to moving from Warrior 1 to Warrior 2, Reverse... with ease.
Not even close.
This lesson has nothing to do with asana (poses), and everything to do with living yoga. When plans change, we adapt... and flow with grace.
If you've ever been to India, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Things there definitely happen on... Indian time. Personalities who "NEED TO KNOW THE PLAN NOW" in shouty capitals are likely to be massively triggered by this. You literally have no choice but to laugh it off, and expect the unexpected at all times... and yes, flow. Ideally, with grace.
And reliable LTE/3G/cell reception to communicate? Forget about it. This is the Himalayas... and they use WHITE BOARDS. Yep. Good ole' fashioned white boards with instructions hand-written on them every hour. Just as I would get in a routine after the same location on the campus for morning yoga three days in a row, I learned to never assume the fourth day would look the same.
Makes me smile just thinking about it!
When monkeys break into your room and eat all your snacks and nuts and leave dirty footprints on your bed, you flow with grace. When you spend the first 45-minutes of your 2-hour morning yoga class chanting the same mantra over and over and over again before even making a shape with your body and don't even know your hand from your foot because you're IN IT... you flow with grace. Even when location plans on the white board change 27 times before breakfast (including the final change, 3 minutes before class starts), we still flow with grace.
(And learn to always expect the unexpected.)
So imagine my delight when I needed to slightly alter the dates of our spring yoga teacher training earlier this week. It was my first opportunity in America to FLOW WITH GRACE! [Insert high fives] So if you've been thinking about taking this epic 200-hour journey with myself and the Yoga Hive teaching team, please note we changed the dates to the below. (And the early bird deadline is January 1st... save $250 by paying your deposit by the new year!)
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 4:30-9:30
Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00am-8:00pm
In light (and grace!)
