The practice of healing through sound is thousands of years old with deep roots in cultures across the world.
In general, a sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in sound waves. These waves are produced by healing instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, and percussion, creating a therapeutic effect.  The experience provides an immersive, full-body listening experience "that can bring balance, relaxation, and a sense of calm to your whole being."

As sound begins to slow the heart and respiratory rate, it can also create a restorative effect on the mind and body.

When you settle in for your sound bath, you lie down and get cozy with a blanket and an eye mask, and allow the stillness to wash over you. You give your body permission to slow down and rest, to receive without the need to respond or react. It becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).

The Full Moon

During a full moon, we see the side of the moon that is being illuminated by the Sun, giving the Moon its bright, glowing appearance. The full moon occurs when it is directly opposite the sun, the earth at their center. On the day of the full moon both the sun and moon are exercise gravitational forces towards the earth, and this is what causes the pulls of the tides, waves and oceans. As water makes up such a large portion of our being, we are very affected, much like these forces of nature we have grown to fear.

The moon cycle parallels that of breath. The last stage (the full moon) is equivalent to the fullest force of prana, or the end of inhalation, while the new moon corresponds to apana, the end of exhalation. Prana is marked by a headstrong attitude, while the stage of Apana is characterized by a calming downward pulling movement.
What does the moon
have to do with yoga?

On a Full Moon, the magnetic pull of the moon is higher. There is a natural upward pull of energy on this night, and if our spine is straight (sitting or standing) our pranas or energies rise. For spiritual seekers, the full moon is a great tool to achieve higher awareness, because of the rising energy.

Just as with the four seasons, the phases of the moon carry various qualities and intentions. In practicing yoga during the full moon, be prepared to experience new sensations, maybe feeling a little ungrounded or obstinate. Accept those feelings and try to create space and open yourself to the powerful energy of the moon.

Moon Cycles and Sound Healing

Since the phases of the moon are times for change and renewal, it's also time to create space and to let go of the things that are holding you back. Combining the benefits of sound healing with these restorative yoga postures during the high time of the moon's transitional phases is a simply magical combination.
