Hatha Flow is a class that focuses on proper alignment, conscious breathing and mindfulness. Emphasis is placed on longer held poses, flexibility, balance and concentration. The intention of this class is to relax and rejuvenate the body and calm the mind. A great class for those interested in stronger postures, basic alignment principles, and adapting more challenging poses for their own limitations if needed. All levels encouraged and supported.
A Vinyasa Flow will get your body moving. Open to all levels, the class will move through "vinyasa" (flowing with breath) to warm up the body and physically build heat to prep the muscles. You may spend time building strength through holding poses longer, which move us into the para-sympathetic nervous system where deeper release in the body for true healing and relief happens. You will leave feeling like your body (and mind) experienced profound release while building strength which helps you build a better practice week by week!
Classes with 'Himalayan' added to their names have an amazing twist called "Kriya." Kriyas are like a yoga recipe - combining movement, with asana, breathwork and a handful of other things, all together for a specific purpose. They leave you feeling transformed and energized and are the most sustainable way to quickly shift your energy. No matter what type of Himalayan Yoga class you take, you will leave feeling like your body (and mind) experienced profound release, leaving you more ready than ever to tackle what your day holds.
Gentle Yoga is a Hatha-based class for all levels. If you are new to yoga, you may find this class particularly welcoming. There will be a mild flow and it moves at a pace that allows everyone to follow along easily. There will also be modifications offered to anyone that is challenged by a particular pose. If you are nervous about trying yoga or getting back into it, this is the perfect class for you. Additionally, if you prefer a softer, mindfully paced class, Gentle Flow will be a perfect addition to your weekly routine.
Restorative yoga allows us to relearn the art of relaxation while developing the skills and abilities to self-soothe. It enhances our healing capacity through helping us regulate the stress response and re-balance the nervous system. In a restorative yoga practice, the focus is not on stretching or strengthening but on releasing. We release tension in the muscles and gently stimulate the organs through long-held poses designed to support and comfort. To achieve comfort, a variety of props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters, sandbags, and eye pillows may be used.
Yin yoga is a slow-paced, passive type of yoga that incorporates long holds and deep breaths for a stretch that gets right into the muscle fibers. Yin yoga is the perfect complement to more vigorous Yang-based practices. Yin yoga involves a series of seated and supine postures, typically held for 3-5 minutes at a time. During these prolonged periods of stillness, the yogi experiences a surrendering sensory awakening that melts away residual tension and stress. Long Yin yoga holds are also known to release repressed or stored emotions, leaving the yogi feeling lighter, clearer and completely relaxed.
Yin yoga is an excellent practice for beginners. It gives them plenty of time to uncover the unique benefits of individual poses without worrying about tricky transitions. It’s also a tried and true technique for yogis of all levels to experience full body release. Those recovering from an injury or looking to lengthen versus strengthen will feel right at home in a Yin yoga class.
